I’m quickly learning that brunch in the city of Toronto is practically a ritual. Whether after a gruelling tennis match or before hitting the shops it’s just what people here do on the weekend. And who am I to complain? Nothing beats enjoying a big stack of pancakes (more realistically an egg white frittata), a cup of coffee, and great conversation with some of your closest friends in the early hours of a work free day. And by early hours I mean 11am, because none of us really make it to brunch before then, do we?
This weekend I found myself out for brunch twice. Saturday we hit up the Drake where I learned the valuable lesson to never order a salad from a brunch menu (it was more expensive and way smaller than any of the brunch items.. boooo). Sunday I got the opportunity to brunch on the third floor terrace of the new Cactus Club in downtown Toronto. Although Cactus Club is big out west, this is the first location here and it’s a pretty big thing for Toronto. We were treated to a pre-set menu of miniature versions of many of their signature items including the drool inducing butternut squash and mascarpone ravioli, in a truffle butter sauce, topped with a giant prawn. If you haven’t had it do yourself a favour and try it (you can thank me later).
Because I love nothing more than getting a little dolled up for brunch I chose to wear one of my favourite black midi skirts from Chicwish with a nautical striped J.Crew sweater. I paired it with some red suede Marc Fisher pumps and my trusty Kate Spade purse which has quickly become a staple in my wardrobe. The sunglasses are a favourite of mine by Thierry Lasry that I picked up in Vegas. He makes some amazing statement sunglasses and I highly recommend checking them out!
With so many great spots to brunch in Toronto I can foresee many brunches in my future. Where are some of your favourite spots to hit up for brunch?
