In the Kitchen : Spicy Eggs in Purgatory

I have a thing for spicy food. I also have a thing for Italian food. And I love combining the two even more.  A while back I took a workshop on Italian breakfasts and learned all about how the Italians like to do my favourite meal of the day. Apparently, in reverse of what we do here in North America, Italians like to start their breakfast with sweet and end it with salty. We learned how to make biscotti, which we ate with delicious frothy cappuccinos and croissants with Nutella (YUM!). We then followed that up with mini prosciutto sandwiches…

Afternoon Escape: Casa Loma

As I mentioned in my last post, my brother and my sister-in-law (still getting used to saying this!!) came to visit me in Toronto last week. I had such an amazing time with them, showing them around the city and checking out all the touristy Toronto spots (many of which I had never visited before). We visited the Steamwhistle brewery and did a tour & tasting (my brothers favourite by far), checked out the CN Tower, Toronto island, the Science centre, caught a Toronto symphony orchestra show, cooked meals together, had macarons at Nadege, drinks at Soho, pizza at Terroni,…

Monday Blues

Coming off of a very relaxing weekend, I can honestly say the only thing blue about this Monday is my outfit. I spent the weekend shopping for patio furniture, setting it up (not so relaxing), and completely re-organizing and de-cluttering my place. And I can’t believe just how happy and excited it all made me. Who would have thought a trip to Ikea would make me feel as pumped up as a night out at the club used to? Apparently I have officially reached old & lame status. Read on for more… Does anyone else get way too excited about interior…

Urban Gardening feat. The Bowery Project

Before I moved I had really wanted to start volunteering with Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Edmonton. I went through all the preliminary and interviewing steps but unfortunately because I was going to be moving in less than a year and could not commit to that long I did not qualify. When I moved to Toronto I made it a personal goal to get involved with the community and volunteer, if not as a big sister than in some other way. I’m ashamed to say that up until now I hadn’t taken the time to get that process started,…

Cargo Pants and a Tax Rant

Can I rant about taxes for a second? What a nightmare. I don’t think there has ever been anything that has stressed me out more in my entire life, than my taxes this year. Up until now I was lucky enough to have my parents doing my taxes every year. I know. A 27 year old woman who still has her parents do her taxes? Bah. grow up. But taxes are not something they teach you in school. In fact they aren’t something they even teach you in BUSINESS school, which I attended by the way. So, I have absolutely…
