When my parents first bought their vacation home in Kelowna (or as they call it, The Oasis) they were convinced they would have to pull teeth in order to get me to come here with them. I’ve always been a big city girl at heart, craving the hustle and bustle of the city vs. the tranquility and slow pace of the country. They were positive I would get bored here.. in fact they thought I would hate it and would never want to visit. However, much to their surprise I honestly live for these quiet getaways at the lake. As much as I crave the go-go-go lifestyle of the city there’s nothing like escaping to the lake for a few weeks to get some rest and relaxation, de-stress, regroup my thoughts, and recharge my brain. Sometimes you need time to just get away, and I couldn’t ask for a better place to do it than here with my family.
The Oasis is a beautiful bungalow style home nestled in the hills of Lake Country, just a short 30 minute drive outside of Kelowna. With the lake at the end of the driveway and a garden that rivals something straight out of a fairytale, it truly is the perfect little escape. With no obligations (other than keeping up with my blog!), my days here over the past week have been nothing short of total bliss. I wake up naturally to the sun shining through the window around 7:30-8:00am and head out to the patio overlooking the lake where I drink coffee, snack on the most delicious (and biggest) cherries or peaches bought at an orchard just down the street, Β and read for a couple hours (Seriously. What could be better?!). Around 10-10:30 I finally convince myself to work out, and then I have brunch with my family outside in the garden. The rest of the day consists of either visiting wineries, floating on our inflatable island on the lake, or laying by my aunt’s pool. We have wine and dinner on the patio, relax some more, and when the sun finally sets we Β finish the day off roasting marshmallows around the fire and watching movies. My life here is such a contrast to my life back home in Toronto, and it has truly allowed me to fully recharge. I feel well rested, de-stressed, with a clear mind and ready to get back into the swing of things when I get back to the city. It seriously boggles my mind whenever I think about how lucky I am to have somewhere like this to disappear to a few times a year, and I am so thankful that my parents have made this wonderful little oasis a part of my life.
Between reading on the patio and floating on the lake I had to (of course) sneak in a couple of outfit photos to keep up with my posts. We took these ones before heading out for a day of winery hopping, which was the perfect opportunity to wear this beautiful floral off the shoulder dress. I’ve already mentioned how much I love off the shoulder a kazillion times, and this dress is no exception. I absolutely love the print and fit. I live for comfortable dresses in the summer, and this ones feels as soft and comfortable as an oversized tee. Β Spending so much time relaxing outside, swimming, and floating on the lake means the last thing I want to do is spend time on my hair. These braids have seriously become my saviour when I need to go from swimming in the lake to dinner ready in minimal time. If there’s one way to describe my style and beauty routine at the lake it’s quick & easy. After all, who wants to waste time getting ready or planning what to wear when there’s sunshine to soak up outside?
