Afternoon Escape: Casa Loma

As I mentioned in my last post, my brother and my sister-in-law (still getting used to saying this!!) came to visit me in Toronto last week. I had such an amazing time with them, showing them around the city and checking out all the touristy Toronto spots (many of which I had never visited before). We visited the Steamwhistle brewery and did a tour & tasting (my brothers favourite by far), checked out the CN Tower, Toronto island, the Science centre, caught a Toronto symphony orchestra show, cooked meals together, had macarons at Nadege, drinks at Soho, pizza at Terroni, and just enjoyed our time together. It’s always fun to get the opportunity to do the type of touristy sight seeing that you wouldn’t normally do in the city you live in, it almost makes you feel like a tourist yourself for a day.

One of our favourite sights we checked out was Casa Loma. Casa Loma, Spanish forΒ Hill House, is a Gothic Revival style house and gardens in midtown Toronto that is now a museum and landmark. It was an absolutely breathtaking sight to see. We all felt like we had stepped out of Toronto and right into a castle in Europe. Who would have thought we had something like this right smack dab in the middle of the city? I couldn’t get over how gorgeous all the architecture was, and we picked the perfect day for sightseeing.
