This Saturday I celebrated my 28th birthday with all of my closest friends here in Toronto. While this was my first birthday away from my family, meaning no special family birthday dinner and none of my mom’s homemade birthday cake (which I’ve had for the last 27 years of my life and rivals anything you can find in the fanciest of cake shops)… It was truly one of the most special days I could have asked for. While we have the family we are born into, our friends are the family that we chose for ourselves and I am so lucky to have this group of supportive, loving, thoughtful and caring individuals in my life. They spent the whole day with me and made me feel nothing short of a princess. They have made the transition to life in Toronto so much easier for me, and it’s because of them that I now call Toronto my home.
To celebrate we started off the afternoon with High Tea at the Windsor Arms Hotel in their beautiful tea room. We were served trays of delicious finger sandwiches and pastries, an amazing selection of teas, and champagne. The spread included fresh scones with preserves with devon cream which were some of the most deliciously rich scones I have ever tasted in my life. A presentation of fresh sandwiches and petits fours on cake stands which included potato blinis with smoked salmon rosette, pinwheel egg salad, vegetarian with sundried tomato paste and dill cream cheese, Croque Monsieurs, and the creamiest goat cheese and caramelized shallot tarts. All of the food was sublimely rich, filling, and indulgent to say the least.
After High Tea, my friend Richard of Quill & Tine surprised us with manicures and champagne at Her Majesty’s Pleasure, the most beautiful salon/spa and cocktail bar in the King West Village Fashion house. I had heard about Her Majesty’s Pleasure before and seen numerous photos and posts about it on social media, and it was so special to get to experience it for the first time with my friends on my birthday. We sat in a row at the bar getting manicures and giggling over bottles of champagne.. could you think of a better way to spend your birthday?
After getting pampered at Her Majesy’s we headed over to Miku Toronto, an Aburi Sushi restaurant thats an extension of the popular Miku Vancouver. Aburi Cuisine was inspired by the innovative idea of flame-searing sushi with signature sauces. The sushi is given a light sear direct from the flame that enhances the natural flavour of the fish. At Miku we sat on the patio and enjoyed numerous plates of delicious, flame seared sushi and sake which was an incredible end to such a fantastic day. Thank you Lance, Rich, Sharad, Vik, Natasha, Marcus & Jo for making me feel so special… here’s to another fun filled year with all of you. And to all my friends and family back home in Edmonton, I miss you all dearly <3
