Where to Stay in Toronto: The Shangri-La Hotel

There are so many beautiful hotels to consider when booking your stay (or staycation) here in Toronto. If you’re visiting, you most likely want to find a hotel that’s right downtown and close to the subway line so it’s easy to get around by foot. You probably also wouldn’t mind staying somewhere that has amazing food… the comfiest beds… a beautiful spa.. and maybe even a bathtub with a view? Or what about a place that offers one of the best high teas in Toronto? If all of that sounds like the key to a perfect stay in Toronto then I can promise you the Shangri-La Hotel Toronto is for you.

A little while ago I had the opportunity to have the ultimate luxury 2 night staycation with my friend Tiffany here at the Shangri-La Hotel Toronto. I’ve always been in love with Shangri-La, whether it’s for their relaxing, luxe atmosphere, the beautiful live music I always hear while walking through the lobby, or that delicious signature Shangri-La scent that floats through the air (“The Essence of Shangri-La” is a mix of vanilla, sandalwood, musk, bergamot and tea spiced with ginger – and is available for purchase to take home should you love the scent as much as I do!). Whatever it is, there’s something completely intoxicating about Shangri-La hotels, and the Shangri-La Toronto is no different. Hope you enjoy my review and photos from one of the most beautiful staycations I could have ever imagined!

High Tea

We started our perfect staycation (after exploring our room of course) with High Tea in the Lobby Lounge. I absolutely love the high tea at the Shangri-La because not only is the lobby bar a beautiful space, but there is always live music. Whether its a pianist or someone singing a ballad with a guitar, it’s such a relaxing atmosphere both visually and audibly. The tea selection is incredible, and the finger sandwiches, scones, and desserts are just enough to satisfy both your palate and hunger! High Tea is available daily from 2-5pm and I definitely recommend having it during your stay in Toronto, even if you aren’t staying at the Shangri-La!

Doesn’t everything look so pretty and tasty?

Trying to decide where to start is the most difficult decision you’ll have to make during High Tea… it’s all so good!

Can we just take a moment to giggle over how perfect that “You can have a culinary oasis” headline is? We didn’t even realize it was in there till long after we shot these photos.

The Food – A Culinary Breakfast Oasis

Although the food may not be the deciding factor when it comes to booking your stay in Toronto, I can guarantee the food at the Shangri-La will give you a reason to want to stay there. During our stay we had one of the best breakfast in bed experiences that I’ve ever had in my entire life. Although our order may have been a little excessive (we really wanted to try everything!) I can promise you we ate every last bit – it just took us a few hours! On the savoury side of the spectrum we enjoyed the regular eggs benedict, the royale eggs benedict, spinach & tomato wellness frittata, the caprese omelette, and a side of ham & sausages. On the sweet side of the spectrum we dined on everything from buttermilk pancakes to golden waffles, a plate of assorted pastries and croissants, fruit salad, and our favourite.. the brioche french toast which basically had me crying for more. Not only was the room service prompt, but you can preorder your breakfast to arrive for any pre-specified time. We did that and it arrived on the dot!

The Rooms

The rooms at the Shangri-La are very spacious with a clean aesthetic, the comfiest beds, black out blinds, and complimentary Wi-Fi. The rooms are also equipped with robes and slippers for maximum comfort during your stay. The bathroom was massive, with floor to ceiling marble, large windows, two sinks and mirrors (perfect for not having to fight over mirror space when you’re getting ready), and a bathtub with an incredible view down University street. I could have spent hours soaking in that tub!

We loved our room so much that we couldn’t help but stay in one night and just enjoy it. We sipped wine, snacked on truffle fries, and watched a movie in bed. It couldn’t have been a more perfect way to spend the evening!

With a bathtub like this how could you not want to spend hours in it?

I often find the bathrooms in hotels tricky, but this one was so big we were both able to easily get ready at the same time without stepping on each others’ toes.

The Shangri-La team were so sweet, they left a bottle of Pinot Noir for us to enjoy during our stay. I can honestly say we enjoyed every last drop!

I told you I spent a lot of time in this bathroom 🙂

Is this pool not absolute perfection?

The Pool/Spa

Although we didn’t get the chance to visit the Miraj Hammam Spa by Caudalie Paris (it looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL though), we did get the chance to explore the pool on our last day there. I couldn’t have thought of a better way to spend our final morning than lounging poolside. The pool area features a massive pool, private cabanas, hot tub, and sauna that make it the perfect place to relax. The Shangri-La also has a health and fitness club that is open 24 hours should you decide you need to work off some of those tasty desserts you had during High-Tea earlier ;).

Thank you so much to the Shangri-La Toronto for hosting us on what will surely be one of my most memorable staycations ever!

If you’re planning on visiting Toronto anytime soon, I highly recommend booking yourself into the Shangri-La, you won’t be disappointed. Located right in the heart of downtown, it’s just a walk away from the Eaton Centre, the shops on Queen street, and even the restaurants on King. It’s also just a block or so away from the Subway line so it’s easy to get to many of the attractions Toronto has to offer. From the amazingly comfortable beds to the delicious food, the incredible staff to the luxury atmosphere… the Shangri-La is definitely a hotel you have to experience.

With Love,

Please note your stay will not come with the balloons or flowers, these were brought from outside for shoot purposes because we’re extra like that.

Toronto is on my bucket list for a while now and I really hope to explore it as soon as possible, Kirsten. This hotel is such a great recommendation and seems like a very lovely and cosy place to stay. Feels like home away from home. :)
