Montreal is such a beautiful city with such vibrant culture, stunning architecture, amazing food scene, and an overall joie de vivre. I recently headed to Montreal for an unforgettable girls weekend at one of Montreal’s most luxurious downtown hotels, the Hotel Place D’Armes. It was a weekend filled with indulgence; from amazing food and drinks to getting pampered at the spa, to just lounging in our beautiful room at the stunning Hotel Place D’Armes. If you’re looking for a downtown luxury retreat in Old Montreal, there isn’t a better place to stay than this beautiful hotel. I hope you enjoy my review of the Hotel Place D’Armes!
About the Hotel Place D’Armes in Montreal
The Hotel Place D’Armes is a beautiful (and very European) luxury hotel situated right in the middle of Old Montreal. Housed in four 19th century neoclassical buildings, it’s just steps away from the Place D’Armes square, minutes away from the harbour, and just a quick 10 minute jaunt from the famous Bota Bota spa. The Hotel Place D’Armes is truly located in a prime position for sightseeing while in Montreal. It is the perfect place to stay if you’re seeking luxury, comfort and convenience. It’s also the closest you will get to a European escape here in Canada!

Hotel Place D’Armes Accommodations
Bedroom
The rooms in the Hotel Place D’Armes are a perfect blend of a clean and modern aesthetic with just a touch of traditional European flair. The goose down duvet and pillows had both of us wanting to never leave the bed.. but luckily the Nespresso machine was just enough to tempt us out of there each morning.
We were welcomed by a tray of the most scrumptious macarons upon arrival, and both of us were so extremely impressed with how large, spacious, and open our Classic King room was. The beautiful large corner window looked out onto the square, where sits the monument of Paul du Chomedey and the Notre Dame Basilica.
Our suite featured:
- Comfiest beds
- Spectacular view of Place D’Armes square and Old Montreal
- Wood floors
- Beautiful writing desk
- Armchair
- Television
- Unlimited free Wi-Fi
- Nespresso Machine
Suite Bathrooms
The bathroom was my absolute favourite part of the room. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t slightly obsessed, and hadn’t possibly annoyed all my instagram followers with way too many insta-stories of it’s beautiful layout. It featured a lovely walk-in rain shower, large window overlooking the street and shelf with plenty of room to hold all of your toiletries. But the piece de resistance for me had to be the black and white tiled floors.
Bathroom features:
- Walk-in rain shower
- Large window overlooking Old Montreal
- Plenty of shelf space
- Black & white tiled floor
- Blow dryer
- Luxurious Le Labo shampoo, conditioner and lotion
Dining Options in the Hotel Place D’Armes
The Hotel Place D’Armes features 2 restaurants and a Terrasse (rooftop patio). They also offer room service from both Brasserie 701 and Kyo Bar Japonais.
Brasserie 701
When staying at the Hotel Place D’Armes you absolutely have to dine at Brasserie 701, the neo-classically designed chic brasserie that takes you from Montreal and plops you right into the heart of Paris. Open from breakfast through to late night snacking, all of the food and cocktails we had at Brasserie 701 were just divine.
The brunch at Brasserie 701 is unbelievable, and they even have an all you can drink mimosa brunch on weekends. We tried every mimosa on the menu and each one was better than the next. For food we started off with the scone with strawberries and whipped cream, which was the best scone I’ve ever had in my entire life. It was so decadent, flaky, and just melted in my mouth. For brunch we had the Classic Benedictine and the Avocado Tartine. I loved the Avocado Tartine so much I actually ordered it the next morning from room service!
Kyo Bar Japonais
Beyond Brasserie 701, the Hotel Place D’Armes also features Kyo Bar Japonais which is a sushi restaurant featuring one of Montreal’s largest Saki menus. Although we didn’t actually get the chance to dine there during our stay, it’s definitely on my list for next time!
Terrasse Place D’Armes
Lastly for dining options there’s the Terrasse Place D’Armes, one of the best patios in all of Montreal. The Terrasse is an extremely popular destination offering breathtaking views of the Place d’Armes Square, Old Montreal, and Downtown. It’s open for lunch and dinner, and stays open late (until 3am!) on Fridays and Saturdays. I couldn’t think of a better spot to take in the view of Old Montreal, sip a glass of wine, and just enjoy the last bits of summer.
Room Service
Room Service at the Hotel Place D’Armes is available from both Brasserie 701 and Kyo Bar Japonais. We enjoyed an amazing room service brunch that was definitely one of the best in-room dining experiences I’ve had.
Rainspa: A Modern day Hammam Spa
If the beautiful architecture, prime location, stunning room layouts, and delectable restaurant options aren’t enough to tempt you to stay at the Hotel Place D’Armes, then I bet the Rainspa will be. Rainspa is the 3000 square foot full service spa located in the hotel that offers the ultimate in relaxation.
Rainspa features an exquisite, traditional Middle Eastern hammam (steam bath), plus a variety of treatment rooms that offer everything from massage, Vichy shower treatments, exfoliations, wraps to essential oil treatments. They do manicures, pedicures, and everything in between to give you the ultimate in relaxation and pampering during your stay. The only tough decision you have to make during your stay? Which treatments you’re going to get!
Parking
Because the hotel is located in such a prime spot in Old Montreal it is important to note that parking is trickier. Parking is either first come first serve pay parking on the street or valet. Be prepared for that if you are arriving by vehicle like we did!
Additional Amenities at Hotel Place D’Armes
In addition to two incredible restaurants, a terrasse, hammam spa the Hotel Place D’Armes in downtown Montreal also features:
- A fully equipped fitness centre
- Meeting rooms
If you’re planning a visit to Montreal anytime soon, I definitely recommend looking into staying at the beautiful Hotel Place D’Armes in downtown Montreal. In my opinion it’s the perfect choice for a luxury stay that truly gives you the best of what Old Montreal has to offer.
Located right in the heart of Old Montreal, it’s just steps away from many of Montreal’s greatest sights, restaurants, spas and destinations. Beyond that the rooms are exceptionally comfy, the restaurants exceeded our expectations, and I haven’t been able to get the hotel out of my mind since we left.. Now that’s what I call a memorable hotel experience!
