Miami is one of my favourite places to escape to when I’m looking for a little sun and tropical vibes without breaking the bank.
With sun, beaches, and an incredible nightlife scene it’s really no surprise that Miami is one of the top tourist destinations in all of the United States.
People flock from all over to experience the vibrant city, spend their days lying on the beach, and then dancing the night away.

Now onto the list of the top things to do in Miami.

Best Time to Visit Miami
Although Miami has amazing weather year round, a couple things to keep in mind are temperature as well as traffic.
Visiting at the end of May was absolutely perfect for me and I would definitely recommend visiting during that mild shoulder season.
Here’s a breakdown of high and low seasons for Miami.
High Season (December-February)
Temperatures are the most bearable during the winter months (low 70’s) which is why it also happens to be high season.
Expect prices to go up and everywhere to be very busy.
Personally I would avoid traveling to Miami during this time however if you are ok with crowds go for it!
Mild Shoulder Season (March-May)
From March-May the temperature are slowly rising and although tourism is still high it’s much less busy than the winter months.
Temperatures will reach the high 70’s in March and high 80’s in May making it a lovely time for a beach vacation.
We visited at the end of May and it was absolutely perfect, although still quite hot.
Some days were very hot end of May so I would not want to travel any later than this.
I would also recommend avoiding visiting during Spring Break and Urban Weekend if big crowds are not for you.
Hot Shoulder Season (June-Aug)
Temperatures are their absolute hottest this time of year and easily reach the high 80’s and 90’s.
Although temperatures are sweltering if you’re able to handle the heat (and take a lot of dips when visiting the beach) you’ll get to take advantage of more breathing room in hotels and top attractions.
Low Season (Sept-Nov)
During the fall is the least busy season but can also be a gamble due to it also being hurricane season.
You’ll find the lowest prices everywhere and the least amount of tourist traffic.
Unfortunately you may also encounter awful weather so be prepared!
How Long Should you Plan to Stay in Miami?
Although there’s a lot to see and do in Miami, depending on your list of must-dos I would say no more than 3-5 days is required.
We visited for 3 days and it was the perfect amount of time to really get a good grasp of the city and enjoy a lot of the sights.

It’s bound to help you plan the ultimate Miami vacation if you’re planning on spending 3 days in Miami as well.
Of course if you’re planning on exploring more of Florida, like driving to the Florida Keys or Everglades National Park, then I definitely recommend at least 4 days in Miami.

What to Pack for your Trip to Miami
Miami is all about bright colours and tropical vibes so my suitcase was full of everything to match.

Where to Stay in Miami
Miami has so many amazing hotels and it can definitely be a little daunting to pick one.
My first recommendation would be stay in South Beach while you are in Miami.
South Beach has such a high concentration of things to see and do in a small area, and it’s easy to get around on foot.
Whether you’re looking to stay in the quiet part of South Beach (the southern point) or you want to be right where the action is along Ocean Drive, South Beach has something for everyone.
Getting around Miami
Public transit is available in Miami, however it is much easier to get around by car.
During our stay this time we opted to use Uber, however after this experience I would definitely recommend renting a car in the future instead.
If you are going to take Uber then you should not do Uber pool. Some areas are much less safe and you never know who will be getting in the ride with you.
We also tried Uber Pool once and had someone steal our Uber so I would not recommend this.
Uber prices in Miami are also quite high, especially if you are going further distances (for example from South Beach to Wynwood, or South Beach to Little Havana) so it would just overall be a much wiser decision to rent a car to use while you are there. If you are staying around the South Beach area then you can easily get around on foot.
- Rent a car: I suggest booking through Economy Bookings for the best rental car rates.
- Uber: Uber is an easy way to get around but just make sure to not use Uber Pool while you are there as some areas are less safe and you never know who will get into your car.
- Public Transit: There are lots of buses as well as the above ground Metrorail. Personally I prefer to drive but you can get all the information for public transit options here.
- City Wide FREE Trolley: I wish I had known about this when I was in Miami! They have some free trolleys that connect certain areas. Get all the information on the available free trolley loops here.
Where to eat in Miami
Miami has a lot of amazing restaurants and it can be really hard to narrow down and choose!

The Best things to do in Miami
Alright, we’ve made it to the list of the best things to do in Miami, the ultimate Miami vacation guide!
From family friendly activities to adults-only events, here are some Miami activities you need to check out during your visit.
1. Relax the day away and catch some rays at South Pointe Beach
As if you’re going to visit Miami without spending time on one of Miami’s incredible beaches!
South Pointe Beach is my absolute favourite beach in Miami and features the highest concentration of the iconic colourful lifeguard towers.
South Pointe Beach is the perfect place to relax the day away, soak up some rays, and just enjoy those stunning beach views.
If you’re staying at The Marriott Stanton South Beach it also just happens to be right in the hotel’s backyard which makes it super convenient!
Spend the morning reading a book, relaxing, or taking photos of the cute lifeguard towers before heading out for the afternoon.
2. Spot some Celebrity Mansions along Millionaire’s Row
If celebrity home spotting is your cup of tea then why not head out for an afternoon boat ride along Millionaire’s row?
One of the most popular and most often booked tours in all of Miami is the Millionaire’s Row Cruise!
During your Millionaire’s Row Cruise you’ll get to take in the gorgeous views of the Miami skyline on a cruise along Biscayne Bay.
Millionaire’s Row is where you’ll get to see the homes of famous stars, so if celebrity spotting is your thing you will really enjoy this!
The cruise will also take you to the Venetian Islands, and along South Beach.
3. Dinner, drinks and dancing on Ocean Drive
Ocean drive is Miami’s most iconic street and it’s been featured in a TON of movies.
There are lots of great and super fun restaurants along the strip as well as a ton of clubs.
Ocean Drive stretches all the way from 1st street to 15th street and features colourful art deco buildings, shops, restaurants and bars.
You’ll definitely want to visit Ocean Drive during the day as well, but Ocean Drive at night is not to be missed!
Some of the most popular restaurants in this area are:
- Gianni’s at the Villa – located in the former home of Gianni Versace, Gianni’s is definitely on the pricier end of the spectrum but has an incredible ambiance. If you don’t want to splurge on dinner then pop by for a drink to explore the villa before heading elsewhere, just so you can see it in person!
- A Fish called Avalon – A Fish called Avalon is a seafood staple on Ocean Drive that’s won numerous awards. They feature freshly caught seafood and have options to dine inside or out on their street patio overlooking the ocean.
- Mango’s Tropical Cafe – If you’re looking for an upbeat dinner then Mango’s is for you! This restaurant and bar features live entertainment nightly that will have you dancing in your seat. Stay late and dance the night away at this Miami hot spot.
4. Go shopping and explore Ocean Drive during the day
Ocean Drive is completely different during the day than it is at night.
At night you really get the party vibe and experience the vibrant nightlife of the city, but during the day is the perfect opportunity to shop, people watch, and take in the colorful art-deco architecture of the strip.
There are so many cafes, restaurants, shops and more to experience along Ocean Drive and its neighbouring streets.
Grab yourself a coffee and enjoy strolling the strip and shopping around.
You just might find some souvenirs to bring home!
5. Do a day trip to Everglades National Park
Ready to spot some gators in the wild?
Then Everglades National Park is for you!
Located about an hour and 15 minutes outside of Miami, Everglades National Park is the biggest subtropical wilderness in the United States, spanning over 1.5 million acres, and is one of the most popular activities to do when visiting Miami.
The park is home to a ton of different plants and animals like alligators, crocodiles, panthers, manatees, and a variety of birds.
If you’re planning a visit, there are so many ways to explore the park.
But the highest rated activity with the most reviews (over 2000!) is the Everglades National Park Airboat Tour & Wildlife show.
On the Everglades National Park Airboat & Wildlife show you’ll get to take an educational and exciting airboat tour of the Everglades National Park.
On the tour you’ll get to spot alligators, turtles, and a variety of birds that are only found here.
Snap a photo with Jaws the famous gator before enjoying a wildlife show followed by enjoying specialties like alligator tail and alligator sausage at the restaurant.
The Everglades National Park Airboat Tour & Wildlife Show doesn’t include your transportation from Miami to the Everglades, so if you need transportation be sure to book the Everglades Airboat Ride, Wildlife Show & Bus Transfer package instead!
6. Check out the street art at Wynwood Walls
Known for its many colorful murals, Wynwood is one of the city’s most happening districts and you’ll find art wherever you go!
Within the Wynwood District you’ll find Wynwood Walls which is a very popular Miami tourist attraction.
Wynwood Walls is an outdoor museum that showcases incredible graffiti murals by some of the world’s best-known street artists.
There is lots to explore in and around Wynwood Walls!
Wynwood Walls is free to enter making it a great activity for those who are visiting Miami on a budget.
But if you want to experience Wynwood Walls in an even more unique way, you can book a private golf cart small group tour of it!
Your driver will teach you all about the revitalized neighborhood’s history, art, and architecture as you ride around marvelling at the stunning street art.
The private golf cart small group tour is an especially great tour for those with mobility issues who still want to experience the beauty of Wynwood Walls.
Beyond Wynwood Walls, the surrounding streets have converted warehouses that have all sorts of neat things from craft breweries to funky art galleries.
Trust me, even if you aren’t really an art person, Wynwood Walls really neat and it’s definitely worth checking it out while you’re in Miami.
7. Enjoy breakfast or lunch on the sprawling patio at Wynwood Diner
If you’re looking for a great place to eat with a lovely patio in the Wynwood District, look no further than Wynwood Diner.
Conveniently located right across the street from Wynwood Walls they have a great menu of brunch favourites including a yummy avocado toast.
We sat on the sprawling outdoor patio and it was the perfect way to start the day.
Just look at all the beautiful plants and foliage surrounding the patio!
8. Get in some shopping at The Shops at Midtown Miami
If you’re planning on visiting both Wynwood and the Design District in the same day like we did, you can save yourself the Uber expense and walk there with a stop at the Shops of Midtown Miami along the way.
It’s perfect opportunity to not only get a little exercise, but get a little break from the sun and do some more shopping.
9. Explore the art and do some shopping in the Miami Design District
After taking a little shopping break at the Shops of Midtown Miami it’s time to head over to the Miami Design District.
The Design District is a creative neighbourhood and shopping destination that’s dedicated to design, fashion, art, architecture and dining.
Here you’ll find all sorts of neat art installations among the luxury shops and art galleries.
10. Have a glass of wine and afternoon snack at Swan
After walking around, browsing, and shooting some photos in the Design District we stumbled upon the beautiful restaurant Swan.
Little did we know it’s actually quite famous and owned by Pharrell!
Swan is an extremely chic restaurant and bar that offers a stunning garden patio that’s the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine mid-day.
11. Do a day trip to beautiful Key West
Here’s a really incredible way to spend a day when visiting Miami!
In fact, the Miami to Key West Day Trip with Activity Options package on Viator is so popular it’s flagged as being likely to sell out!
On the Miami to Key West Day Tour you’ll travel to Key West on a coach, and spend a day exploring this incredibly colorful island community.
You’ll have the whole afternoon to yourself, or you can add some optional activities like snorkeling, parasailing, and even taking a boat tour with a glass bottom.
But the best part is that someone else will be doing the driving, so you can sit back and enjoy the stunning coastal views as you pass through 34 islands and 42 bridges on your way down the Florida Keys.

12. Go parasailing!
As if I could write this guide to the best things to do in Miami without including some epic water sports!
Although, I am not sure if parasailing counts as a water sport per say, since you are in the air.
But that doesn’t make it any less epic.
With the Fly South Beach Parasailing Adventure you’ll get to soar above the beautiful turquoise waters of Miami Beach while enjoying an incredible breathtaking bird’s eye views from 350 FT in the air.
I just love parasailing, it makes for such an epic experience and there couldn’t be a better place to do it than Miami beach!
13. Rent a jet ski and hit the waves
Another great water sport you have to try while in Miami is jet-skiing!
You can rent your private jet-ski with Miami Watersports which will give you 30 minutes of exploring Miami from the water on your own.
This is a great activity for thrill seekers who enjoy exploring alone and going at high speeds on the water.

14. Do a thrilling jet ski tour
If you prefer a tour rather than a self-guided adventure, you have to check out the Biscayne Bay jet ski tour!
This 5 star rated tour will have you exploring the sites of Miami on a 1 hour guided tour.
You’ll get to see the downtown Miami skyline, the mansions of the rich and famous, the Venetian Islands, the Port of Miami, Miami Beach and much more.
Along the way you might even spot dolphins, manta rays, sea turtles, manatees and other ocean wildlife.
The Biscayne Bay jet ski tour is definitely a thrilling way to experience Miami from the water!
15. Spend an afternoon exploring Little Havana
The historic neighborhood of Little Havana is home to a large Cuban-American community, and is a great place to experience the culture and flavors of Cuba.

You’ll need to either drive or take an Uber to this area but since you’ll be spending the whole afternoon (and possibly evening if you stay for live music, dancing, or to watch a movie at the theatre) it’s totally worth the 20 minute drive.
In Little Havana you’ll get to eat authentic cuban food and immerse yourself in all things Cuban.

16. Go a food tour of Little Havana
Because there is just so much to see in Little Havana and so much to learn along the way, I highly recommend doing a walking tour during your visit.
One of the highest rated walking tours you can do of Little Havana is the Little Havana Food & Walking Tour which is rated 5 stars and has almost 4000 people who have rated it!
You’ll quickly realize why this is such an amazing tour and totally worth it.
On the Little Havana Food & Walking tour you’ll get to not only learn all about Little Havana, it’s rich history and culture, but also get to stop at some of the best family-owned Cuban restaurants in the area!
You’ll get to try the most mouthwatering Cuban food including guava pastries, chicken plantain cups, flan cups, and many more.
This is the best way to really immerse yourself in everything that Little Havana has to offer.
17. Have an authentic Cuban meal at Versailles
Although I mention Versailles in my Little Havana Guide (which you definitely should check out if you’re visiting Little Havana!) it had to be mentioned here too because it’s an absolute must.
There’s no better way to truly experience another culture than through the food!
If you’re not doing the Authentic Little Havana Food and Culture Tour that I mentioned before, then I definitely recommend starting your visit in Little Havana with the Versailles restaurant to try some authentic Cuban food there.
The Versailles cafe, restaurant, and bakery has been open since 1971 and is a well known spot in Little Havana for Cubans and tourists alike.
At Versailles you’ll get a truly authentic Cuban cuisine experience that you definitely won’t regret.
Versailles was the #1 recommended Cuban restaurant in not only Little Havana but all of Miami, so you know it’s bound to be incredible.
18. Go on a private cruise of Biscayne Bay
If crowds aren’t your thing and you’d prefer to avoid the typical big boat tours, why not book a private cruise around Miami instead?

20. Visit one of Miami’s epic pool or beach day clubs
Miami is not only famous for its nightlife, but also its epic beach and pool clubs!
Spend the day lounging by the pool or on the beach, rent yourself a cabana or day bed, and enjoy popular beats and live DJs.
These beach and pool clubs are really the place to be in Miami, and if you’re on an adults only trip you definitely need to allocate some time to enjoying one of Miami’s famous beach or pool clubs during the day.

- Nikki Beach: Nikki Beach is the place to be for an upscale atmosphere, live music, and those killer ocean views. Want to lounge in a cabana or daybed while sipping on some drinks? Nikki’s got you covered.
- SLS South Beach: If you’re looking for a trendy scene and the chance to spot a celeb, check out SLS South Beach. Not only do they have a pool and beach club, but they also have plenty of dining and drinking options.
- Delano Beach Club: If you’re looking for something a little more upscale, Delano Beach Club is the place for you. Not only does it offer beautiful ocean views, but it also has a variety of dining and drinking options, plus cabanas and daybeds for rent.
- 1 Hotel South Beach: 1 Hotel South Beach is the perfect spot for the sustainability-conscious. Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a museum located in a stunning villa and estate that’s actually a National Historic Landmark.

22. Grab a smoothie bowl at the extremely instagrammable Dreamer Miami
Dreamer just has to be one of the TOP instagrammable places in Miami.
I’ve seen it all over blogs and instagram and I knew I just had to visit during my trip to Miami.
Dreamer is an açai juice and matcha bar that serves the yummiest in healthy and organic fare.
I’m so glad we made the trip out here because not only was it SUPER cute in person but the smoothie bowls were beyond delicious.
23. Go on an epic helicopter tour of Miami
There really is no better way to experience the sights of Miami and the stunning skyline than from the sky!
I absolutely love doing helicopter tours, they are truly a once (or few times) in a lifetime kind of activity that makes for a truly special experience.

Since it’s a private tour too you actually have the option to modify where you’d like to go!
This means, if you’d prefer to fly over the Everglades to look out for alligators, or rise above South Beach and the Atlantic Ocean you can!

24. Dance the night away at one of Miami’s famous clubs
Miami’s nightlife is world famous, so if you’re itching to experience it now is the time!
There are a lot of great night clubs and bars for you to experience in Miami, depending on the vibe you are looking for.
Here are some of the most popular and highest rated Miami night clubs:
- Mango’s Tropical Cafe South Beach: is a very popular nightclub along Ocean Drive that’s a lot of fun. They have latin music, shows, great food, and a really great vibe.
- LIV: is another very popular spot that is known to attract celebrities. Located in the opulent Fontainebleau Hotel, you can experience world famous DJ’s here and a party you will never forget!
- Club Space: This club is located in the heart of downtown Miami and is known for its cutting-edge electronic dance music (EDM) scene. It features multiple rooms with different music genres and is open until afternoon next day.
- Story: This modern and trendy club is located in South Beach and is known for its star-studded guest list and exclusive atmosphere. It features state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems, and hosts some of the world’s top DJs.
- E11even: This club is located in the heart of downtown Miami and is known for its 24/7 operation schedule, variety of music styles and its go-go dancers. Yes, you heard that right. It’s open 24 hours a day 7 days a week!
25. Go outlet shopping at Sawgrass Mills Outlet Mall
We started off our first day in Miami by visiting Sawgrass Mills and I’m so glad we did.
Although it is a full day trip we knew the deals would be completely worth it.
If you haven’t rented a car you can take a direct bus there and back.
You can book your shuttle to and from Sawgrass Mills here and it only costs $20 if paying cash in person or $25 if using a card.
They will pick you up at your hotel anywhere in the Downtown area or South Beach which makes it super convenient.
We knew we wanted to visit the outlets on the first day as chances were we were going to find some pretty cute clothes and accessories we would want to use for shoots during our trip.
It was also kinda nice to get the brunt of our shopping done right away and leave the rest of the days for sightseeing!
Sawgrass Mills has 350+ stores ranging from the luxury likes of Burberry, Gucci and Prada down to the more affordable shops like Target and Marshalls.
We spent the entire day perusing the sales and we both left with some amazing deals!
26. Go for a stroll through the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens
If you’re looking for something free to do in Miami, the Miami Beach Botanical gardens are the perfect solution!
Located just a short walk away from Dreamer (mentioned above), it’s easy to do both in the same day.
Open Tuesday-Sunday from 9am-5pm, the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens are beautiful gardens featuring all sorts of stunning flowering trees, orchids, philodendrons, and more than 100 palm species.
They also have special features like a koi pond, fountains, Japanese Garden, Native Garden and Edible Garden.
If you’re a plant lover you definitely won’t want to miss a visit to the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens!
27. Have a moment of reflection at the Holocaust Memorial
The Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach is a powerful reminder of the atrocities committed against six million Jews during the Nazi regime from 1933 to 1945.
Located in a quiet corner of Miami Beach, this powerful memorial is designed to make you feel the gravity of the Holocaust and its impact on the Jewish community.
Designed by the architect Kenneth Treister, the memorial features a series of outdoor spaces that are highlighted by the centerpiece bronze sculpture of an outstretched hand tattooed with an Auschwitz number surrounded by bronze figures of victims.
The Memorial Wall serves as a place for survivors and their families to pay homage to loved ones who lost their lives during the Holocaust.
Visiting the memorial is free and open to the public from 9:30 am to sunset, so you can take your time and really take in the powerful message.
If you’re interested in learning more, a brochure is available for self-guided tours or, if you’re visiting with a group, you can reserve a guided tour two weeks in advance.
It’s a must-see for anyone interested in learning about the Holocaust and its impact on Jewish communities.
28. Explore the beautiful grounds at Faena
Faena Miami Beach, an award-winning luxury hotel featuring stunning Art Deco-inspired suites, world-class dining, private beach club and more.
Faena also happens to be one of the top instagrammable places in Miami Beach because of it’s stunning Damien Hurst masterpiece located in the middle of the property.

The Miami Seaquarium is a marine mammal park that’s been in Miami since 1955!
They have a ton of different marine animals like dolphins, sea lions, manatees, and sharks, as well as a variety of fish, reptiles, and birds.
One of the most popular things to do at the park is to check out the dolphin show, where you can watch trained dolphins do a bunch of tricks and maneuvers.
They also have a sea lion show and a manatee show.
You can even take a behind-the-scenes tour and learn more about the animals and how they’re taken care of.

30. Bayside Marketplace
Bayside Marketplace is a super popular destination in downtown Miami for those looking for a blend of shopping, dining and entertainment options.
Bayside Marketplace is an outdoor complex located by the waterfront of Biscayne Bay, and it boasts over 150 shops and restaurants, in addition to various live music stages and an open-air amphitheater.
Featuring a combination of local and national brands, the two-level marketplace offers a wide variety of options for fashion, accessories, and souvenirs.
Plus, with an array of dining options from seafood to barbecue, and even ice cream and smoothies, there’s something for every palate.
One of the real highlights of Bayside though is its location.
Here you’ll get picturesque views of the Biscayne Bay, the Miami skyline and the port.
Plus Its pedestrian-friendly layout makes it the perfect spot to relax and people-watch.
31. Art Basel Miami Beach
If you’re visiting Miami in December, you can’t miss Art Basel.
Art Basel Miami Beach is one of the most prestigious art events in the entire world.
It happens annually in Miami Beach and attracts people from all over the world.
It’s all about showcasing Modern & contemporary art with a focus on paintings, sculptures, installations, and other mediums from leading galleries and artists, as well as emerging stars.
Beyond the fair portion, there are also a ton of other events and things going on during the week of Art Basel Miami Beach.
You can attend talks, lectures, and panel discussions with artists and art experts.
And expect some exclusive parties, performances, and special events.
It’s a really exciting time to be in Miami and a great opportunity to see the latest trends and meet interesting people in the art world.
It’s definitely a must-attend event for any art lover, so if that’s you don’t miss Art Basel!
32. Catch an exciting sports game
If sports are your thing, why not catch a live, action-packed game while you’re visiting Miami?
Miami is home to the Miami Heat (NBA), the Florida Panthers (NHL), the Miami Marlins (MLB) and the Miami Dolphins (NFL) so there’s a lot to pick from!
There’s nothing more exciting than watching a live sports game while sipping on beer with your friends.

33. Rent a bike and go for a ride in South Beach
A great way to see South Beach that also gets you a little exercise (great for working off all those evening cocktails) is to see it by bike.
With South Beach Bicycle Rentals (they’re the highest rated place to rent your bike while in South Beach!) you can rent a bike for as little as an hour up to multiple days.
This means if you’d like, you can spend your whole Miami vacation exploring Miami by bike!
You’ll pick up your Sun Bicycle Beach Cruiser from South Florida Trikke Shop in Miami Beach, which is located right in the middle of the Art Deco District.
From there you can explore at your own pace and visit all sorts of neighboring sights including the Miami Design District, South Pointe Park, Downtown Miami, Wynwood Walls, the Art Deco District in Miami Beach, and the Bayside Marketplace which are all within a 10 minute ride.
Renting a bike with South Beach Bicycle Rentals really is a great way to see Miami and stay active at the same time.
By the way, a bottled water, safety helmet and lock are all included in your rental.
34. Explore a tropical paradise at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden
Why not take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and spend a day at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden?

If you’re visiting Coral Gables for the day to see the Fairchild Botanic Gardens (listed above), then you definitely need to also visit the Venetian Pool while you’re there!
This historic swimming pool, created in 1923 from an abandoned rock quarry, is one of the most beautiful and unique pools in the United States.
You’ll be amazed by the Venetian-style architectural elements like arched bridges, loggias, and grottos that give the pool its unique character.
