Burt’s Bees Makeup Review – Why you’ll LOVE Burt’s Bees Beauty

I’ve recently become pretty passionate about incorporating more non-toxic/green/organic beauty and skincare products into my daily routines. My first big shift was switching to a natural deodorant and you can read all about that here. Lately I’ve been slowly adding more non-toxic products to my arsenal and it’s been a lot of fun. From playing around with clean skincare to trying out natural makeup… I’ve had a lot of fun experimenting with products that are healthier and better for me. This brings me to the latest: Burt’s Bees Makeup line.

Aren’t Non-Toxic Products Expensive?

When most people think of non-toxic beauty products, the initial thought is that they’re going to be super expensive. I’ll be honest, when I first started getting into this I had the exact same assumptions. While there are definitely non-toxic brands that are a lot more expensive, there are also starting to be a lot more budget friendly, health savvy brands out there. A perfect example of this is Burt’s Bee’s new makeup line. This means no matter your budget you can start the journey to being a happier, healthier, more conscious you!

Burt’s Bees Beauty: A New Affordable and Natural Makeup Line

About a month ago Burt’s Bees launched Burt’s Bees Beauty here in Canada. Burt’s Bees Beauty is Burt’s Bees all natural, non-toxic, and very affordable makeup line. Thanks to the lovely PR people over at Burt’s Bees, I was given a big box of makeup products to play around with. Being that I was already on the quest to incorporate more natural products into my beauty regime, I couldn’t have been more excited to try the Burt’s Bees makeup line out… especially since so many of you voiced to me that you really wanted to learn more about affordable natural beauty brands.

After playing around with Burt’s Bees makeup line for the last couple of weeks, I decided to write up a quick and honest review on each of the products for you. I hope you not only find this useful, but that it helps you realize that there really are great natural makeup products out there that won’t break the bank. Enjoy 🙂

Before we get started, just a note on Burt’s Bees Beauty makeup line. All of the products listed are 99.9% + natural. They are all formulated without parabens, phthalates, SLS, petrolatum or synthetic fragrances. They are dermatologist tested, and never tested on animals. Cruelty free, natural beauty that’s affordable too!

Burt’s Bees Mattifying Powder Foundation

The claim: Burt’s Bees Makeup Mattifying Powder Foundation is a 100% natural mattifying and buildable foundation powder that blends effortlessly. Made with bamboo to blur imperfections, this foundation powder controls shine with a buildable and blendable coverage to give you a smooth and even skin tone.

The Verdict: I really liked the Burt’s Bees Makeup Mattifying Powder Foundation! I always use a powder foundation on top of my regular foundation just because I find it gives a perfect finish and keeps my foundation in place all day. This one worked just as well as my go-to from MAC and lasted all day without creasing or getting visible lines. Considering it’s non-toxic, works great, and sits at only $18.00, it’s a definite win in my books!

Burt’s Bees Goodness Glow Liquid Foundation

The claim: Burt’s Bees makeup foundation moisturizes, evens, and smoothes skin for a natural and radiant finish.

The Verdict: The Burt’s Bees makeup foundation was the one and only big fat negative for me. I gave it two tries because I thought maybe the first time I tried it it just reacted badly with my primer… but unfortunately the second time I tried it I had just as bad (if not worse) results. The foundation didn’t blend at all, looked almost “chunky” on my skin, made me look old and weathered, and was just overall horrible on my skin. To be honest, I looked better without foundation at all which defeats the purpose. Both times I tried it I had to wash it off immediately and start fresh with my usual foundation. While I love the Burt’s Bees beauty line, this is one product that I wouldn’t use again.

The Claim: Burt’s Bees Blush Makeup is a 100% natural blush made with bamboo, honey, and enriched with vitamin E. It’s a lightweight mineral makeup that blends easily and evenly to enhance your cheek’s natural glow.

The Verdict: I thought the Burt’s Bees blush makeup was beautiful. It looked and felt just like any regular blush, but with the added bonus of being completely natural. It gave me a lovely glow and I really liked the color (I tried the Toasted Cinnamon).

Burt’s Bees Natural Brow Pencil

The Claim: Burt’s Bees Makeup natural brow pencil blends easily with a long-lasting formula to fill, define and shape the brows. Made with Jojoba and Shea butter, this brow pencil is 99.9% natural, long-lasting and gentle.

The Verdict: I’ve been using the Burt’s Bees makeup brow pencil for the last 3 weeks and I really like it. It goes on very easily and is the perfect shade for me. It’s very natural looking and not too harsh unlike some pencils I’ve tried. It last’s all day without smudging, and creates a really nice brow. The only downside I would say is that because it is so soft I find I have to sharpen it more often and therefore the pencil doesn’t last as long as some other brands I’ve used.

Burt’s Bees Natural Eyeshadow Trio

The Claim: Burt’s Bees Makeup Natural Eyeshadow Trio is a 100% natural, easy to blend, and long lasting eyeshadow that resists creasing, fading and smudging for all day wear. Made with bamboo, honey, and vitamin E it nourishes the skin with the right amount of pigment.

The Verdict: I tried the Burt’s Bees Makeup Eyeshadow trio in “Dusky Woods” and absolutely loved it. The eyeshadow lasted all day without creasing, and gave me bronzed goddess sort of look. I absolutely loved the colors, and I would say it is VERY comparable to any of the traditional eyeshadows we are used to that aren’t as safe. Knowing that there’s such an affordable natural eyeshadow option, I would definitely purchase and use again.

Burt’s Bees Nourishing Lengthening Mascara

The Claim: Burt’s Bees Makeup Nourishing Lengthening Mascara is a 100% natural mascara that features a formula that lengthens and defines lashes. Made with Jojoba Oil and naturally moisturizing Glycerin to nourish lashes, this 100% natural mascara is gentle enough for your delicate eye area.

The Verdict: While the Burt’s Bees Makeup Mascara wasn’t the BEST mascara I have ever tried (I tend to lean towards those kinds that give you the ultra-long fake looking lashes) it was a very good mascara. It went on evenly, did not clump at all, and lasted all day without getting smudgy under my eyes. If you’re trying to incorporate more natural products, this is definitely one to start with. The eye area is so sensitive that it’s really important to be more aware of what kind of products we are putting on (or near) it. This was definitely a quality natural mascara!

Burt’s Bees Nourishing Eye Liner

The Claim: Burt’s Bees Makeup Nourishing Eye Liner is a 99.9% natural nourishing eyeliner that is easy to apply and resists smudging and fading for long-lasting wear. It’s specifically formulated for your delicate eye area, and made with jojoba, mango, and responsibly sourced meadowfoam seed oils to help nourish your skin. The unique cedar wood pencil is also responsibly sourced.

The Verdict: I tried the Burt’s Bees Makeup liner in the warm brown and it’s quickly become my go-to liner for when I want a softer look. It lasts all day, does not smudge, and has a really nice color to it. I will definitely keep using this liner!

Burt’s Bees Glossy Lipstick

The Claim: The Burt’s Bees Makeup Lipstick is a glossy lipstick that gives your lips lustrous, glossy color with natural, moisturizing ingredients for long lasting wear. Made with nourishing red raspberry oil, moringa oil and mimosa flower wax these lipsticks moisturize and leave lips smooth and beautifully soft. Made with recyclable packaging.

The Verdict: As much as I’ve always been more of a matte lipstick kind of gal, I was really impressed with the beautiful sheen of the Burt’s Bees Makeup lipstick. I tried the “Blush Ripple” and it had such a gorgeous red color without being too harsh. It was soft, girly, and had the perfect sheen to it. This is the perfect every day kind of red, and it won’t dry your lips out at all.

So what were my overall thoughts on the Burt’s Bees beauty line?

Besides the foundation, I absolutely loved the entire Burt’s Bees Makeup line. All the products look and feel like very high quality products, but without the luxury price. They were all very nourishing, long lasting, and looked great on. I love that the packaging is all recyclable, and that the products are all 99.9%-100% natural. For a budget green beauty line this is an absolute win in my books, and if you’re thinking of incorporating more green products into your makeup routing this is a great place to start!
