Have you ever gone shopping on a serious mission to find something that you have in your mind, only to spend 4-5 hours not being able to find what you came for? I feel like this happens whenever I go with a specific type of item in mind, that I haven’t necessarily seen anywhere recently, I just know I want. This happened to me last week as I was in a rush to find the perfect light coloured spring coat for my trip home to Edmonton. I wanted a light coat that was a soft material, maybe drapey or flowing, possibly trench coat style but not as stiff. Something soft. Now why exactly did I need said coat so desperately for my trip? I had carefully chosen my outfits for my week home in order to bring the smallest amount of stuff with me possible, so that I could bring as much stuff that I still have packed up in my old room back with me. For those that know me well, you know packing light is *NOT* my forte. I’ve been known to take a 70 lb suitcase for a 4 day trip (and have to pay a hefty fee for it), or a duffle bag full of shoes on previous trips. I carefully selected a weeks worth of clothes that were all one colour scheme (pastels), everything could be worn together, and I brought one pair of flats (that I would wear to the airport) and one pair of heels. I felt pretty damn good about my excellent, newfound, light packing skills until I realized looking in my front closet that I had zero coats that would go with my pastel colour scheme. Literally nothing. I’ve always been one to wear bright colours and so that’s what I had. I was screwed. So naturally, instead of re-planning my entire week of outfits, the next day I headed to the mall and spent 5 hours looking in every single store trying to find this perfect coat I had in my mind. I didn’t find said coat.
What I did stumble upon though was this sleeveless coat/vest, which although it didn’t keep me as warm as a coat with sleeves would have.. quickly became a new favourite in my wardrobe. I absolutely love how versatile it is, and I know it’s going to be something I wear on repeat. I love the length and the way it hangs. I also got it for an unbelievable price. Don’t you just love finding great items at low prices? Nothing beats the feeling of filling your wardrobe with new clothes you love and didn’t have to break the bank on. Especially when you’re a starving artist ;).
